When I think about core skills that future creative pros will need to develop, rapid adaptability is a top contender. The faster we take in knowledge, assimilate it, and add it to our actionable skill base, the stronger (and more valuable) we become. This is where knowledge stacking comes in.
The process is simple. It starts with a deep dive into a particular area we need knowledge in. As we learn, we take lots of notes — thinking critically through, and envisioning, the knowledge as we acquire it. At the same time, we jump in and start making.
The key to this is to remember that trial and error will be your best friend as you work through this, but when done right, knowledge stacking means we can absorb large amounts of new information and then quickly apply what we are learning. Contributions start from day one.
Identifying a problem, knowing how to find the answer, and acquiring the knowledge to solve the problem quickly are essential in a highly dynamic work environment. It is through this that we become more versatile, more useful, and better equipped to stay relevant in this quickly changing field.
